Meanings of Chrysanthemum 菊


The Western name, chrysanthemum, from the Greek chrysos meaning gold and anthemon
meaning flower.

Chrysanthemum is a Chinese word, derived from "Chu hua" meaning "October flower". 


In Japan, Kiku ( kikoo) is chrysanthemum 

This link is of interest when giving Kiku as a gift. 


The chrysanthemum, known as kiku (菊) in Japanese, is the symbol of autumn in Japan. It is at this time of year that the flower blooms most brightly. Once a flower begins to bloom, specialist chrysanthemum growers use custom-made sticks to meticulously train the petals to point upwards.
